Description
The only city to have an Empire named after it, Rome still offers clear sign of her sumptuous past in its multiple archeological sites all over the city and mostly far away from one another. In this tour of Rome you will get a good understanding of Rome's celebrated past. If your time is limited, choose a tour of Rome with your own driver and guide so you will be able to breeze from one site to the next and see more in this tour of Rome.
Our English fluent guides will take you through the history, little known details and anecdotes of Rome and its treasures, art and magnificent monuments. Just let us know what you like and we will put together the perfect itinerary for you and you party.
Here are a few suggestions:
Guided tour of Rome - Classical Imperial & Renaissance Rome: This tour of Rome includes the Colosseum, with a look at its grandiose shows of the past and the, the Roman Forum where the day-to-day life of Imperial Rome took place, Rome Capitol and the Pantheon. Learn about costumes and anecdotes of Rome and its people. Take a stroll in the Palatine hill - the oldest part of Rome - where the legend places the foundation of Rome. Climb the stairs to the Roman Capitol to take in the view of Rome and learn about its Palazzo of the Roman Senate and its architecture signed by Michelangelo. Drive on to the historic center of Rome to enjoy the architectural perfection of the Pantheon. A short stroll to Piazza Navona and its rich history as well as some of the most beautiful Renaissance churches and Palazzos.
Tour of Rome - Classical & Underground Rome
A perfect addition to Classical Imperial Rome guided tour is the Basilica of Saint Clement and its fascinating underground area. In the same place you will be able to see artifacts and archeological sites from three different time periods: Imperial, Medieval and Renaissance Rome. This beautiful basilica is composed of three three levels: Roman level with its Mitreo (the place dedicated to god Mitra, an ancient divinity identified with the Sun in Roman time), the Medieval level with the foundations and remains of the first basilica, and the third level with the current basilica with 12th century mosaics and frescos by Masolino (1383 - 1447) and Masaccio (1401 - 1428).
Tour of Rome - Antique Appian Way and the Catacombs: The Latin poets used to call Via Appia the queen of all ways for its magnificent burial monuments. Opened in 312 BC to link Rome with its southern provinces, soon Via Appia became the street where Roman celebrated their dead. The signs of Roman carriages are still visible on the stoned paved street, the catacombs - the first Christian cemeteries dated 2nd century and funeral monuments are not to be missed.
Testimonials
- We just arrived back. We had a wonderful time. The Venice tour guide was very good. Just the morning with her really set us in motion! Rome tour guide was excellent. He really knew how to work with the kids. He was patient, and funny. Lent us books to look at things after the tours, etc.
Vatican was fantastic. Ancient Rome was very good.
Thanks again for all your hard work and patience with us. I know we ask a lot of questions in our quest to "get it right", but thanks for answering everything and providing great guides!
Feel free to use me for any recommendations!

- But I have to tell you that it is unanimous with my whole family (including my husband who is difficult to please!) that our guide in Rome was the absolute highlight of our trip! He is warm, caring and funny. He was able to connect with each one of us and show us a Rome we never would have seen. I adored the way he would explain things to my kids, and with my little guy, he would make sure Andrew understood what was happening before moving on to the next thing. On the first day our guide surprised us with an impromptu drop-off at the Vatican to see the Pope emerge from his window! It was pouring rain that day and we stood in the square happily watching and listening . . . . what a thrill!! (And just as he predicted, it stopped raining shortly after the Pope's appearance!!!)
